Which uniform do you think is ,most appropriate for a fashion designer?
It's been a long time since I was here. Spending amazing holidays with my friends wasn't helping with posting at all... But now I'm going back to work, to my projects and future plans. A month ago, I was given an opportunity to create a wedding dress for a friend of my friends, who is getting married this October (I'll write a bit more about the dress soon). Needed to meet the girl, talk about her preferences and note her body measures. When preparing for the meeting I realized I had chosen a simply, almost basic look based on black jeans and my favourite cupro black t-shirt. Next time I choosed almost the same outfit. I felt that I need to be like a clean sheet of paper, not trying to express anything by myself. I wanted my project and my drawing to be the most important part of the meeting. Then I understood fashion designers who are known by their constant, monochromatic looks! It's not because of the lack of invention or creativity, It's not their laziness and boredom. It's a hard try to leave a place for their projects, to be neutral and not representing any special kind of trend. I feel it as a designers freedom to express what they want, express any kind of aesthetic they feel appropriate now, any kind of mood and atmosphere. It allows as to perceive only the greatness of their minds and their creations, without analyzing their characters or personality. I think it might be also the try to focus on what is really important for them. Since I started my architecture studies I have been trying to minimize my wardrobe only to basic colours, in order to be able to choose my outfit really fast in the morning and to be neutral while talking with my clients. I started to prepare my own uniform to be able to concentrate more on my daily duties, to clear my mind and do what I am made for. Here you have some of the best known fashion designers' uniforms. Alexander Wang is always wearing easy t-shirts and jeans in black and grey. The same is with Giorgio Armani. However he adds some elegant business suits when needs to be presentable. Karl Lagerfeld's casual outfit is like a stamp, likely to copy and paste every single day. Chantal Thomass opts for mens-like suits always in black and white.
